Irán Imani Torres
Raised in Chicago, Illinois, with ancestral roots in San Luis Potosí, Mexico, Irán (she/they/ella/elle) has long been interested in how the built environment shapes the health and wellbeing of people and the more-than-human world. Inspired to better understand the connections between people, place and health, they earned a BA in Public Health from the University of Washington, where their commitment to water and environmental justice deepened. Drawing on experience in farming and natural resource management, they are committed to supporting local agriculture, traditional lifeways, and the stewardship of land and water in service of communities. They are deeply honored to call New Mexico home and to work alongside community members in protecting the Middle Rio Grande watershed for current and future generations. Outside of work, Irán enjoys spontaneous trips to climb, mountain bike, fly fish, or discover local plants, animals, and a peaceful swimming hole for an afternoon nap.
