Wildfire Risk Workshops and Presentations
Ciudad Staff are available to give presentations and put on workshops about forest health and wildfire risk.
We are happy to work with East Mountain communities, HOAs, and other community groups. Having an annual meeting? Worried about your neighborhood's wildfire risk? We are glad to be considered as a guest presenter.
Email ricky@ciudadswcd.org or fill out the form below to schedule a workshop/presentation with us!
We focus our presentations and workshops around the topics below:
- The specific high wildfire risk to communities in the East Mountains
- What is wildland urban interface (WUI)?
-
What we know about the effectiveness of active forest management
- Why large and small treatments matter and why different kinds of treatment are important
- What is defensible space and what actions can neighborhoods and individuals take on their own
-
Ciudad SWCD East Mountain Forest Health Program services including:
- Public land thinning projects with State Land Office , COA Open Space, BernCo Open Space, and others
- Neighborhood Chipper Events and Ciudad's new capacity to fund multi day chipping events
- Green Waste Days and it's expansion to 6 weeks each fall and each spring starting this year
- Reflective Address Numbers
- 80/20 private land cost share thinning program (Ciudad pays 80%)
-
Discussion and additional information/material sharing about:
- How wildfire and forest management impacts watersheds
- Ips and other Bark Beetles
- IBHS Wildfire Prepared Home, where it does and doesn't overlap with our program and the impact it's having on insurance
We can bring a small projector and screen or use whatever setup you might have available. We can also coordinate to schedule a meeting outside where we can look past projects and discuss forest health.
