Soil Health for Producers and Community Projects Application
Ciudad SWCD has been awarded funds from the New Mexico Department of Agriculture's Healthy Soil Program to support up to twenty producers and community projects in applying cover crops, compost, mulch, and installing hedgerows and pollinator habitat. The goal of this project is to support growers in building and maintaining soil health.
Ciudad SWCD will directly purchase cover crop seed, compost, mulch, and native plants and distribute them to participants in the program based on NRCS approved application rates per acre.
The following steps describe what you can expect to do if you would like to participate in this program:
Step 1) Submit an application below to participate in Soil Health for Producers and Community Projects.
Step 2) A team at Ciudad SWCD will review your application and if you are selected we will contact you to discuss your project timeline.
Step 4) You and Ciudad SWCD staff will sign a Memoradum of Understanding (MOU) that clearly states what each of us will do to accomplish the project.
Step 4) With a Ciudad SWCD staff person for support, you will conduct a pre-project soil health assessment and soil test. Please see the following document for a description of these activities:
FY27 HSP Sampling and IF Assessment Protocol.pdfStep 5) Ciudad SWCD will work with you to get the materials you request to your project site. It is your responsibility to distribute the seed, mulch, compost, and plants at your site.

Step 7) When all project tasks are completed, you and a Ciudad SWCD staff person will conduct a post-project soil health assessment.
Please Note:
Ciudad SWCD staff will not seed, plant, or distribute compost or mulch. However, through a separate program, there may be funding available to support program participants with these tasks. If you need support with these tasks, please indicate so in the appropriate question in the form below.
Project activities must be completed by August of 2027.
