Originally from North Carolina, mayam has been growing food and working with plants for as long as they can remember. Their love for plants came from their grandmother, who was a steward and caretaker of the land in Monroe, NC. mayam decided to leave North Carolina at the age of 22 to work on various farms in different states including Utah, Pennsylvania, and now New Mexico. From managing community gardens in North Carolina to working on a 65 acre farm in rural Pennsylvania,  mayam has had their fair share of experience in different scales of organic growing. A lover of seed saving and intergenerational education, mayam now works as the Grow the Growers Assistant Farm Trainer program teaching the next generation of farmers and land stewards  about the wonders of growing food and ecological responsibility. When they are not farming, you can catch them hanging out with their child, running along the acequia, biking across town, farming on their own 1 acre plot or snoozing in a hammock.
