Rolling River Watershed Model

May contain: person, boy, child, male, and urban

Our Rolling River is a working model of a watershed, mounted on a trailer that is transported to schools and special events. The trailer is filled with sand-like recycled plastic that can be molded into nearly any type of landscape and outfitted with miniature forests, farms, and cities. Rolling River presentations simulate how landscapes, infrastructure, water quality and availabilty, and wildlife can be impacted by storm events and different land-uses across the watershed. The primary education objectives are to teach participants about how to reduce pollution in our watershed and demonstrate how the used of nature-based designs that mimic natural watersheds are neccessary to adopt in urban landscapes. Click here for photos of recent Rolling River events.

Ciudad SWCD presents Rolling River demonstrations at schools, festivals, scouting events, conferences, and conservation events throughout the middle Rio Grande Valley.

What Ciudad SWCD is able to accomplish as a District is largely restricted to the availability and guidelines  of grant funding that are awarded. Ciudad SWCD delivers numerous programs in support of our residents  and our community.  In order to provide Rolling River presentations, Ciudad SWCD requests a fee in order to cover cost for transporting the Rolling River, compensating individuals for delivering the presentations, and covering maitenance costs.

A limited number of scholarships are available to bring the Rolling River free of charge to events each year, otherwise a fee is applied. To learn more about scheduling a Rolling River event, contact erin@ciudadswcd.org or complete the form below.
