Community Chipper Days

Many East Mountain residents are aware of the need to thin their property to improve the health of their trees and to reduce the risk of wildfire. While many homeowners are willing and able to do the thinning, they are unsure of what to do with the "slash", or leftover tops and branches.

The Ciudad SWCD has a chipper available for rent by local government organizations and neighborhood groups working to make the East Mountain area safer and their forest healthier. To take advantage of this opportunity, at least two landowners, or a neighborhood organization should schedule a Community Chipper Day, and make sure neighbors have slash piles ready by that date. A contractor from Ciudad will bring the chipper to the community for the day and move it from slash pile to slash pile for up to 8 hours.
