Rolling River Programs Rolling River Watershed Model

Our Rolling River is a working model of a watershed, mounted on a trailer that is transported to schools and special events. The trailer is filled with sand-like recycled plastic that can be molded into nearly any type of landscape and outfitted with miniature forests, farms, and cities. Hidden plumbing allows the rivers to actually flow, wetlands to appear, and lakes to rise and fall in response to simulated flood and drought cycles.

Ciudad SWCD presents Rolling River demonstrations at schools, festivals, scouting events, conferences, and conservation events all over Bernalillo County.

Workshops

Ciudad SWCD and its cooperators hold workshops for Neighborhood Associations and at East Mountain community events to increase awareness of issues facing residents living on a wildland/urban interface.

A workshop may provide information and make resources available to the public in the event of an emergency in their area. At these events, Emergency and Natural Resource Management agencies make themselves available for comments and questions while encouraging communication between residents and communities.

Other topics available for community presentations are forest health, firewise® communities, wildfire behavior and rainwater catchment systems.
